Job description
Grow and leave your mark
Reporting to the Mountain and Safety Director, the patroller oversees sporting activities at Val Saint-Côme and provides first aid to anyone on site when the situation calls for it.
Responsibilities
At the heart of the action
- Open and close the trails in line with current policies and practices.
- Know the trail safety signage plan and make sure on-mountain signage is adequate.
- Install temporary and permanent signage on site.
- Transport and install fences, safety netting, ropes, marker bamboo and padding.
- Check the condition and availability of patrol equipment.
- Follow and enforce the mountain and resort code of conduct.
- Stand guard during events and competitions to ensure the safety of participants, athletes and guests.
- Rotate within the team to maintain a continuous presence on the slopes.
- Administer first aid to anyone on site and act as workplace first responder.
- Use GRAM and/or the accident, incident and first aid log to complete event reports.
- Perform rescue techniques (toboggan descents, immobilizations, etc.).
- Carry out lift evacuations when required, following the established procedure.
- Prevent risks and hazards on the trails and in the snow park.
- Inform and educate guests on the importance of safety measures.
- Answer guest questions and handle lost and found items.
- Keep the work environment clean at all times.
- Any other related tasks.
Qualifications
What we’re looking for
- Winter season: ski patrol certification from a body accredited by the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport.
- Winter season: intermediate-advanced ski/snowboard level and a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Summer season: advanced wilderness first aid training.
- Summer season: ATV driving and excellent mountain biking skills (technical terrain, downhill, control).
- Ability to intervene in rough and variable terrain.
- Able to ski, ride or bike for several hours, work outdoors in cold or heat, and lift and carry loads.
- Team spirit and leadership, safety-focused, able to work under pressure.
