Reporting to the Food Service Director, the cook’s assistant helps prepare and cook food from recipes and menus.
Responsibilities
At the heart of the action
- Prepare and cook meats, vegetables and other foods using the appropriate methods.
- Wash, peel and cut vegetables, fruit and other ingredients.
- Weigh and measure ingredients according to the recipes.
- Prepare garnishes and side dishes.
- Keep the kitchen, equipment and work surfaces clean.
- Store and organize supplies and ingredients in storage areas while ensuring proper rotation.
- Restock workstations with the necessary ingredients and equipment.
- Help prepare dishes under the chefs’ supervision.
- Plate dishes according to established standards and instructions.
- Monitor the cooking of certain dishes as instructed.
- Follow work methods and use the designated products and equipment in line with current standards.
- Clean equipment, workstations and kitchen appliances.
- Any other related tasks.
Qualifications
What we’re looking for
- 6 months of relevant experience in food service or hospitality.
- Vocational diploma in institutional cooking or equivalent (an asset).
- MAPAQ certification (an asset).
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Meticulous, detail-oriented, attentive to cleanliness and a team player.
