Job description

Reporting to the Food Service Director, the kitchen assistant supports the cook’s assistant and the cook by handling essential tasks to speed up food preparation and meal service in the cafeteria.

Responsibilities

At the heart of the action

  • Perform basic prep tasks: peeling, cutting and chopping vegetables, meats and fish.
  • Measure and weigh ingredients according to the chefs’ instructions.
  • Prepare simple dishes such as salads, soups or starters under the chef’s supervision.
  • Help plate dishes for service.
  • Clean work surfaces and equipment after use.
  • Keep prep areas clean and tidy at all times.
  • Apply strict food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Take part in inventory management by checking product freshness and following storage guidelines.
  • Help receive, unpack and store deliveries of ingredients and supplies.
  • Organize stock following rotation principles.
  • Work closely with the chefs and the rest of the brigade.
  • Help prepare orders during busy services.
  • Any other related tasks.
Qualifications

What we’re looking for

  • Relevant experience in food service or hospitality (an asset).
  • MAPAQ certification (an asset).
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer-service oriented, attentive to cleanliness and a team player.
